Since I started crocheting I’ve been working on my projects pretty much everywhere I go. This includes the break room at work, the subway, on vacation, and at friends’ houses. The question I get asked most after “what are you knitting?” (crocheting. not knitting. pet peeve.) is “can you teach me to do that?” While I’d love to give lessons to all my friends and spread the Joy of Crochet around the world, between work, my own projects and napping I just don’t have the time. So, I decided the best place to start with this blog would be an extensive “How To”.
I taught myself how to crochet (and how to knit) primarily through YouTube video tutorials. I found that trying to figure it out by reading instructions or looking at drawn diagrams just didn’t work for me. I’ve made a few of my own videos and will share a couple of links to videos I found most helpful.
One really useful printed resource is The Crochet Answer Book. There is also a version for knitting. Both books are small enough to throw in your craft bag but have enough clearly written information to get you through any problem you might be having. Starting out, it would be a good idea to browse through the whole book, then later use it as a resource when you have a specific question.
